Safework’s  Healthcare Project Engineer (PE) supports the Project Manager and project team in the successful execution of healthcare construction projects throughout California. This role is responsible for managing project documentation, technical coordination, and communication between design teams, contractors, and clients while ensuring compliance with HCAI (formerly OSHPD) regulations and healthcare facility standards.

The Project Engineer plays a key role in maintaining project organization, assisting with schedule and cost control, and supporting the safe, compliant delivery of projects within active healthcare environments.

Position Description:

  • Assist the Project Manager in coordinating all phases of project delivery, from design through construction and closeout.
  • Maintain project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, meeting minutes, and correspondence.
  • Track and update project schedules, change orders, and budget logs.
  • Interface with designers, contractors, and hospital representatives to resolve field issues and ensure timely responses.
  • Support compliance with HCAI/OSHPD requirements, including document control, plan check submittals, and field inspections.
  • Assist with bid reviews, procurement, and contract administration.
  • Conduct site walks to observe progress, verify installation per plans/specs, and support field coordination.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and updates for clients and internal management.
  • Help manage infection control, interim life safety measures (ILSM), and construction safety protocols.
  • Support closeout documentation, punch list resolution, and final inspections.
